Reverse Osmosis Machine Price in Lagos (2026 Guide)

Commercial reverse osmosis water treatment system with membrane vessels, filters and a storage tank

How much is an RO machine in Lagos?

Short answer: In Lagos, supplier listings checked on 22 October 2026 show domestic reverse osmosis (RO) purifier examples at ₦200,000–₦380,000. Commercial examples include ₦4.5 million for 500 LPH, ₦1.5 million–₦6 million for 1,000 LPH, ₦7.5 million for 2,000 LPH and ₦16 million for 5,000 LPH. These are advertised equipment prices, not installed-cost estimates or equivalent offers. Request an itemized quotation before buying.

A domestic RO purifier supplies drinking water at one tap. A commercial RO plant produces larger volumes and may need separate pretreatment, pumps, tanks and post-treatment. Compare the complete specification, not just the word “machine” or the advertised capacity.

Reverse osmosis (RO) uses pressure and a semi-permeable membrane to reduce specified dissolved salts and contaminants. It is one treatment option, not a substitute for testing your water source and confirming the required water quality.

Capacity terms: LPH means litres per hour; GPD means gallons per day. Confirm the gallon unit, test conditions and whether the rating describes treated product water or incoming feed water.

What affects the installed cost?

A commercial RO plant is usually one stage of a treatment and supply system. Depending on the raw water and end use, a complete project can include:

  • Raw-water sampling and laboratory analysis.

  • Raw-water storage, transfer pump and feed controls.

  • Pretreatment such as multimedia or sediment filtration, activated carbon, softening or antiscalant dosing, and cartridge filtration.

  • High-pressure pump, RO membranes and pressure vessels, flow meters, pressure gauges, conductivity/TDS monitoring, controls and automatic flushing.

  • Product-water storage, hygienic distribution and any required post-treatment, such as UV disinfection, chlorination, pH correction or remineralization.

  • Electrical connections, plumbing, drain/concentrate line, installation, commissioning, operator training and post-installation testing.

  • Replacement cartridges, membranes, chemicals, energy, cleaning and planned service over the operating life.

Not every site needs every item. The correct package follows the laboratory results, required product-water quality, daily demand and applicable drinking-water or process-water standard. A low equipment price can become an expensive project if pretreatment, tanks, commissioning or service parts are missing.

What does an RO system cost to run?

Running costs include electricity, feed water, replacement cartridges and membranes, cleaning chemicals, water testing and servicing. There is no single reliable monthly cost for every Lagos property. Ask the supplier to estimate these costs for your daily demand, source water and production schedule.

Operating cost per litre = total operating costs for a period ÷ usable treated litres produced in that period.

Ask for expected product and reject-water flows, pump power, operating hours and current replacement-part prices. Add equipment and installation separately when calculating total ownership cost. Follow the exact model’s maintenance plan; do not assume every filter or membrane has the same replacement interval.

What size RO plant do you need?

Start with the actual demand for treated water, not the seller’s machine label. Estimate required litres per day, hours of production, peak demand and storage needs. Then calculate a preliminary product-water rate:

Required product-water LPH = target litres per day ÷ planned production hours per day.

For example, a site that needs 3,000 litres of permeate over an 8-hour production day requires an average of 375 LPH of product water before accounting for downtime, cleaning, seasonal source-water changes or a design margin. Ask the supplier to confirm whether its advertised LPH means permeate/product water or feed water. Those numbers are not interchangeable.

RO performance changes with feed-water salinity, temperature, pressure, membrane condition, recovery setting and pretreatment. Require the supplier to state the expected product flow and quality at your tested feed-water conditions, and to identify the assumptions behind the figures.

Test your water before buying

Lagos properties may use different sources, including borehole, tanker, stored water, rainwater or public supply. One home’s test result does not describe another property’s source or storage tank. Ask a competent laboratory to analyse the water you will actually treat. The test panel should match the source and intended use; discuss physical, chemical and microbiological parameters with the lab and treatment engineer rather than relying on appearance, taste or a handheld TDS meter.

The Lagos Water Corporation describes physical/chemical, microbiological and comprehensive water-analysis services through its Water Quality Assurance Department; confirm current availability and charges before submitting a sample. The Standards Organisation of Nigeria catalogue lists NIS 554:2015, Nigerian Standard for Drinking Water Quality. Use the applicable current Nigerian standard and the specific end-use requirements when setting product-water targets.

A TDS meter is useful for quick operational comparison, but it is not a complete safety test. The U.S. Geological Survey explains that a TDS result does not identify the specific dissolved substances. It also does not replace microbiological analysis or targeted tests for contaminants such as nitrate, iron, lead or fluoride.

Do all Lagos homes need RO?

No. Whether a Lagos home needs RO depends on its water-test results and intended use, not its location alone. The 2024 Nigeria Demographic and Health Survey reports that, for Lagos, 92.7% of the surveyed household population used no household drinking-water treatment and 6.7% used an appropriate treatment method; the Lagos table covers 6,952 people. These are household-treatment practices, not a finding that every untreated supply is unsafe or that every household needs RO. See the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare’s NDHS 2024 report.

UNICEF’s 2021 Lagos WASH profile reported 55% of households using a safely managed drinking-water service and reported E. coli contamination in drinking water in 34% of households. These are survey indicators from the 2021 study, not a present-day test of an individual home, office or borehole. Read the UNICEF Lagos State fact sheet.

The practical conclusion is simple: test the water source and storage system you plan to use, then select treatment for the measured problem. Do not use statewide statistics as a substitute for a site-specific water test.

RO benefits and limitations

Advantages

Trade-offs and limits

RO can reduce a broad range of dissolved salts and other contaminants when the selected system is correctly designed and its performance claims are verified.

It produces a concentrated reject stream as well as treated water. Reject-water volume depends on system design and operating conditions.

It can be useful for brackish or high-TDS water and for specified drinking or process-water targets where laboratory results support RO.

Household point-of-use RO can be water intensive. The U.S. EPA says a typical system it describes may discharge 5 or more gallons of reject water per gallon treated, and some inefficient units up to 10; its WaterSense-labelled benchmark is 2.3 gallons or less per gallon treated. These are U.S. benchmarks, not a guaranteed ratio for a Lagos machine. Ask for the tested recovery/efficiency of the exact model at your feed-water conditions. EPA WaterSense

A point-of-use unit treats water at one tap; commercial plants can be sized for higher, continuous demand.

The system needs the right pressure, electricity, pretreatment and maintenance. Poor pretreatment can foul or scale membranes and raise operating cost.

RO can reduce TDS, but certified contaminant-reduction claims differ by exact model.

“RO” does not mean removal of every contaminant or automatic compliance with a drinking-water standard. Storage and distribution can also recontaminate treated water if hygiene is poor.

Treated water can be tailored to a defined use with appropriate post-treatment.

RO permeate has fewer dissolved minerals and may need stabilization or remineralization for taste, corrosion control or a specific process target. Avoid buying add-on mineral stages for unsupported health claims.

The NSF/ANSI 58 overview explains that the standard addresses material safety, structural integrity, TDS reduction, efficiency, recovery and contaminant-reduction claims. TDS reduction is required under the standard; additional claims such as nitrate, fluoride, lead or arsenic reduction are optional. Check the exact model and its certified claims in the NSF drinking-water treatment listing directory.

For membrane design and care, consult the membrane maker’s technical manual. For example, DuPont’s FilmTec RO/NF manual discusses feed-water limits, pretreatment, system operation and membrane cleaning; it cautions that residual free chlorine can damage the membrane type covered by that manual. The actual pretreatment design must follow the selected membrane’s datasheet and the site water analysis.

How to compare RO quotations

Before paying a deposit, request written answers to these questions:

  1. What is the intended use? Drinking water, bottling, food production, laundry, boiler feed, laboratory use and dialysis require different water targets and may require other treatment or compliance steps.

  2. What is the raw-water analysis? Ask which source was sampled, when it was sampled, which parameters were tested and which treatment steps respond to each result.

  3. What does the rated capacity mean? Confirm LPH or GPD of product water under specified feed conditions, operating hours and temperature—not just nominal pump flow.

  4. What quality will the permeate meet? Request the design guarantee and identify the lab method and acceptance criteria for commissioning.

  5. Which membrane and pump are supplied? Get manufacturer, model, membrane count, pressure-vessel rating, pump duty and local spare-parts availability.

  6. What is the recovery and reject flow? Ask for feed, permeate and concentrate flow at expected operating conditions, plus where the reject stream will go.

  7. What pretreatment is included and why? Confirm filtration, softening/antiscalant, dechlorination or other steps against the water analysis and membrane requirements.

  8. What happens after the membrane? Confirm storage-tank hygiene, disinfection or stabilization required for the application, distribution materials and sampling points.

  9. What is included in the price? Separate equipment, pretreatment, tanks, pumps, controls, freight, installation, electrical/plumbing work, commissioning, laboratory tests, training, tax and warranty.

  10. What will it cost to operate? Request expected electricity, water recovery, cartridges, membrane replacement, chemicals, cleaning and service costs. Ask for the maintenance schedule and response time in Lagos.

  11. What is the warranty and performance remedy? Define what happens if measured product flow or quality does not meet the stated design conditions.

A sound quotation should include a process-flow diagram, equipment schedule, performance assumptions, installation scope, commissioning criteria, operating manual and after-sales plan.

RO for a packaged-water business

A commercial RO machine alone does not authorize packaged-water production. NAFDAC’s packaged-water plant guidance describes facility and registration requirements; confirm the current rules, approvals and fees with NAFDAC before you order equipment or begin production. Product-water treatment, hygienic storage, filling and packaging, laboratory testing and facility layout should be designed as one system.

Frequently asked questions

How much is a domestic RO purifier in Lagos?

Two domestic RO listings checked on 22 October 2026 advertised ₦200,000 and ₦380,000. These are different models, not the lowest and highest prices across Lagos. Confirm capacity, membrane, installation, warranty and replacement-filter costs.

How much is a 250 LPH RO plant in Lagos?

Request a fresh supplier quotation. The earlier ₦600,000 negotiable asking price for a 250 LPH unit could not be reverified. Do not use it as a confirmed current price or a complete installation budget.

How much is a 500 LPH RO machine in Lagos?

Ensure Machine advertised a 500 LPH RO system at ₦4.5 million when checked on 22 October 2026. This is a supplier equipment-price example, not a Lagos-wide average or a confirmed turnkey installation cost.

How much is a 1,000 LPH RO machine in Lagos?

Checked supplier listings advertised ₦1.5 million at RP Facilities and ₦6 million at Ensure Machine. The plants are not proven equivalent: membranes, pumps, pretreatment, controls, warranty and installation scope can differ. Compare itemized specifications before choosing.

Does the RO machine price include installation?

Only if the supplier includes it in writing. Ask whether the quote covers pretreatment, tanks, delivery, electrical and plumbing work, installation, commissioning, testing and tax. Do not treat an equipment listing as a complete project budget.

How often should RO filters be replaced?

Follow the exact model’s service schedule and the installer’s water-test and performance records. Replacement intervals depend on feed-water quality, usage and the component involved. Ask for cartridge and membrane prices before you buy.

Does reverse osmosis make water completely safe?

No single label proves that. A correctly designed RO system can reduce specified contaminants, but the exact model’s test claims, the water entering it, its maintenance and the cleanliness of the storage and distribution system all matter. Verify treatment performance with a suitable laboratory test.

How much water does an RO system waste?

RO creates treated water and a concentrated reject stream. The ratio depends on system type, feed water and operating conditions. Ask the supplier for feed, product and reject-flow figures; do not assume a household product’s ratio applies to a commercial plant.

Is remineralization required after RO?

It depends on the intended use and product-water chemistry. Specify post-treatment based on taste, stability, corrosion control or process requirements, and confirm it with testing. Mineralization should not be sold as a health benefit without evidence.
